Here's your countdown to Shavuot. (Rather count up? Click here.)
First question for your table - what do you do to protect your young ones from the cold outside? Do you keep them inside? Do you bundle them up? Do you not worry about it?
This week I thought I could say that spring is finally here.
Yes, the trees began blooming weeks ago, and yes, Pesach always comes in the spring.
But its hard to feel like its spring when it's still too cold to plant your garden.
I've never been a consistent gardener: the peas one year are hardy, the next year meager, the carrots can range from stubby to awesome, the corn ranges from not sprouting at all to 4-H quality. About the only thing I can count on are the cherry tomatoes.
But this year I had a new idea. Before Pesach when the pandemic's curve was steepening and the lockdowns were growing: giant bell peppers!
Of course, it was too early to plant them then - the experts say to wait until temperatures stop dipping below 50.
The wait is over, this week they went from indoor starter-pots to the ground (with a lot of help from our son Avramy).
But now the NWS is telling us that our friends up north are sending us more cold air next week. What to do, what to do? Any suggestions from your table?
Another question for your table - The Pandemic can make us feel like seedlings stuck in the ground, unable to run away when the weather turns uncomfortable, completely dependent on someone else for our survival.
But it also give you an opportunity to express yourself?
EG,
Shabbat Shalom
